Who is the Dark Goddess?
Isis, Astarte, Diana, Hecate, Demeter, Kali, Inanna,... Basically all the Goddesses have a dark counterpart, some more visible than others. But through all cultures, the fertility goddesses - givers of life, were also those who ruled over death. Transformation (Change) is also the realm of the Feminine due to her cyclical nature. She is both Winter and Spring.
The Dark Goddess is the essence of both creative and destructive powers in their most primordial forms. When you connect to this energy of the Goddess, you are able to understand and honor life and death as two sides of the same coin.
The descent we make into the darkest parts of ourselves is as necessary as rising into the light. These journeys are part of the same continuum, possessing innate gifts and beauty. True devotion to the Feminine path not only embraces the dark, but extracts essential wisdom from that fertile place that only women can access.
Let's remember, it is out of the darkness of the womb that everything is birthed into form. The womb is symbolic of unseen potentialities, whereas the darkness alludes to the mystery from which life arises and death dissolves. The Witch (wise woman) understands what it means to possess both of these sacred portals inside her own body. She is the human expression of mystery and magic beyond the seen world.
The Holy Witch is unafraid to wield the energies of chaos, destruction, rage, death, transformation, fierce compassion, seduction and spiritual ecstasy. She knows how to work with the darkness by totally entering into it to create new light. Clarity arises after the storm.
Therefore, a Witch is a woman in touch with her dark feminine essence. She will always follow her own compass back home. Without feeling the need to ask for advice or seek permission, she becomes a woman unto herself… at last free to simply be.
One of the key components of a Witch's personality is that she does not accept or allow herself to be controlled. She is wild in her pursuit of her heart's calling, following her own rules. She does not look outside for approval from the status quo of society nor does she satisfy the traditional norms set for women. She walks her own path with freedom, revelry and passion.
